A county of contrasts.

From Oxfords dreaming spires and lively streets to the
surrounding countrysides quaint-cottages and stately
homes, there is something for everyone in Oxfordshire.

Oxford, as an ancient university city, is
both timeless and modern. Its dreaming
spires and tranquil colleges coexisting
with lively arts venues, bustling shops
and fashionable restaurants.

You may already be familiar with some of the
famous features that make a visit to Oxford unique. The sheer beauty of the citys colleges and riverside setting, national and international treasures, displayed in a family of museums (such as the magnificent Ashmolean) whose scope and scholarship is second to none; literary links, and stunning film and TV locations; idyllic days on the river; shops with real character; and musical and dramatic performances, ranging from candle lit recitals in college chapels to open air Shakespeare-festivals in one of the citys parks.

These, and other popular ingredients, blend
with Oxfords lively mix of restaurants, pubs and
theatres to give this historic city its alluring, vibrant
and cosmopolitan buzz.

Well known as it is,Oxford never fails to impress
even its most regular visitors with something
different or something new. In among the treasures
and attractions that are renowned as the oldest,
finest or even the only one of their kind, there are
always more secrets to discover and more stories
to be told.

Oxfords golden Cotswold-stone university buildings
include some of Englands most impressive
architecture, notably the Bodleian Library, a
masterpiece of English Gothic; Sir Christoffer Wrens Sheldonian Theatre and the Radcliffe
Camera.

One of Oxfords oldest colleges, Christ
Church, founded in 1525, is home to the citys
cathedral and is the birthplace of Lewis Carrolls
famous Alice in Wonderland books. Harry Potter fans
will love the Great Hall, which provided the model
for the hall, at Hogwarts in the films.

Information Centre will be very pleased to hear from
you. We are there to help you lift the lid on Oxford,
