OIKOS

Over 200 artefacts dating from the first 16 centuries of the modern era are illustrated in this system.

They can be viewed in three ways: period, country and theme.

Within these countries the images are drawn mainly from the collections of the three contributing museums. The Portuguese artefacts reflect the history of Setúbal and its surroundings, those from England are drawn mainly from Oxford and Oxfordshire but those from Athens are drawn from all over the Eastern Mediterranean.

The artefacts have been chosen to illustrate the preparation and serving of food and the utensils used, the clothing, jewellery and personal belongings of the three countries through time, and the range of furnishings used both on and in buildings
