Ivory Triptych, possibly from Constantinople: 10th or 11th century AD |
The right side of an ivory triptych (three-part religious panel) shows the archangel Gabriel dressed in imperial garments. He is holding a missal with the words, "Holy, holy, holy" (Hagios, Hagios, Hagios). At the top is the head of the Apostle Paul, and on the back is a large cross.
