Embroidered Panel with the Crucifixion: 13th century AD

A unique embroidered panel showing the Crucifixion, with the twelve Apostles, ascribed to the 13th century. The dry soil of Egypt was ideal for preserving textiles. This embroidery demonstrates that despite the Arab conquest of Egypt, Christian life continued (as indeed it does to this day).
