Pieces of a Clay Oven and Saucepan from the Convent of Jesus, Setúbal: 16th century

The simple red earthenware used by the nuns of the convent for food storage and cooking was probably manufactured locally.

The vessels these two fragments come from could have been used together, to boil or fry food (in the pan) over the oven or brazier, which would have contained charcoal and kindling.
