Custodial Sentence

A Custodial Sentence is one of the following orders;

1. Detention and Training Order, available in both the Youth Courts and Crown Courts. Currently the sentence is available for those aged from 12 to 18 years at the time of conviction
2. Detention During Her Majesty's Pleasure Orders, which is the mandatory sentence for someone convicted in the Crown Court of a murder committed whilst under 18 years of age
3. Long Term Detention Orders, which are for other serious or grave crimes. Subject to the nature and seriousness of the offence, the Order is available for those aged between 10 and 18 at the time of sentence. Long Term Detention Orders are only an option when the defendant has been committed to Crown Court on indictment.
