Lead Member for Children's Services

Under section 19 of the Children Act 2004, every top tier local authority in England will be required to designate a lead member for children's services. The lead member will provide political leadership on children's services within the authority and will have responsibility for the same set of functions as the director of children's services. The lead member will have a particular focus on safeguarding children.
