Non-Designated Country

The Adoption (Designation of Overseas Adoptions) Order 1973 as amended in 1993 enables adoption orders in countries listed in the Order to be recognised in the UK. Where children who have been adopted in non-designated countries arrive in the UK, they are regarded as privately fostered and the private foster carers have to apply for an adoption order in this country after the necessary residence requirements have been fulfilled.
