Remand

When the court adjourns a case (moves the case to another date), it will usually decide to remand the young person, particularly when they are charged with more serious offences. If the court chooses to remand a young person, it can remand them: on conditional bail, on unconditional bail to local authority accommodation, to custody (secure remand).

Remanding a young person to local authority accommodation involves the young person being Looked After by the local authority. Conditions can be attached to remands to local authority accommodation as with bail. Unless the type of accommodation is a condition of the remand, the local authority can choose what type of accommodation it provides for the young person.
