From
the 15th to the 19th century, during the periods of European exploration
and empire-building, people from Africa were kidnapped and traded
and brought to Europe as slaves, and taken to North America as slaves.
But the greatest movements happened in the 20th century. In post-war
Britain, African-Caribbean people were encouraged to emigrate and
work in the service industries, and following the collapse of the
Portuguese empire in 1974 many Africans chose to live in Portugal.
