Until recently clothes-pegs were made of willow wands and sold from door to door by travelling gypsies, who also made and sold 'peg dolls' made from the pegs.

 




A gypsy caravan site in Hinksey Lanes, Oxford in 1957. We can see the traditional gypsy caravan, plus a more modern one which was clearly the basis for the 20th-century English touring caravan used by many Oxfordshire people on their holidays, in late 20th-century Oxfordshire.
