With its gorgeously painted wooden carriages travelling up and down as they revolve, the Jungle Ride model is a near replica of one of the actual rides still operated today by an Oxfordshire fairground family.

This detail catches the excitement of the first evening of the fair, as people queue up under the trees by the brightly lit rides. The fairground families who bring this excitement to Oxford year after year live for a week each year in a field two miles from St Giles.

Neville Rainsley's Merry-Go-Round model is closely similar to the merry-go-round which takes pride of place at the entrance to St Giles in the fair.

A miniature hand and sign no larger than a thumb-nail advertise Neville Rainsley's model.
