Contemporary research shows that Roma nowadays wish to settle permanently, only moving to find work or for social reasons. Although the majority live in houses, their everyday life maintains nomadic traditions. Even in homes with wooden or alabaster furniture, heavy-framed pictures on walls, modern electric household appliances (television sets, refrigerator, phones) they continue to sit on the floor to have their coffee or to do household chores such as ironing or cooking.
